Hello! How was your weekend? There are lots of new friends here! I just wanted to say hi! Hi! Hi! It’s a treat to be here in your inbox. Thank you for subscribing. Apologies for the “hold.” I’ve been busy on my third book and also reporting on cutting-edge dog adventures for Fox Weather (catch those here). Now, we’re back with more weekly adventures for your dog (plus advice and other fun dog/ human stuff). Remember: if you have a dog advice question, email info@thecaninehotline.com.
Okay, a few days ago, after hours of sitting in front of my computer, I was walking around Central Park with Bette (pronounced Betty), feeling so excited that it was spring. In fact, I was SO excited that it was finally spring that (this is a little embarrassing), I started to pretend I was, like, a spring…detective. Yes. I ACTUALLY made up this whole story in my head that my trusty hound and I were hired by “winter” to investigate…all evidence of spring. So, I put on my invisible detective hat, tucked my phone away, told my hound, Bette, to be on “high alert” (not difficult for Bette; she’s always on high alert), and we set off into the park to…. investigate spring . Here are some of our notes…
At 77th street, noticed robin having bath in puddle; squirrel drinking from same puddle (was extremely cute). 80th street, young man in pink Hawaiian shirt practicing trumpet on park bench (emphasis on “practicing.” Hopefully continues practicing). Bette seems to be noticing that some of her “sticks” have now sprouted..…flowers. Also…the squirrels. Squirrel population has expanded. Lots of Squirrels. Will proceed with caution.
Okay, so I am clearly no Sherlock Holmes with my investigations (maybe more Shaggy and Scooby). But, it was fun. lol.
Grab your trusty K9 Unit and go on a Spring Investigation. THIS IS NOT A REGULAR, AROUND THE LOOP WALK. Not the time to be listening to Harry Styles, posting cherry blossom pics on Instagram, tracking calories with Strava, or talking through weekend plans with your spouse. YOU ARE DETECTIVES. THIS IS AN INVESTIGATION. Use your senses. Pay attention to what you are seeing. Use your dog’s nose to help guide your observations. Don’t walk the way you always walk. Cut across that path into the grass. Sniff for changes in that garden. Stop and observe the squirrels. (PS: WE WILL GET YOU ONE DAY, SQUIRRELS! THIS IS NOT OVER!!!) Oh, and go on this walk soon. Like, this week. Because pretty soon, a new season will be in town…summer.
Will you go on the spring investigation walk? If you do, please report any findings in the comments section. Thank you.
Catch ya next week! PS- if you’re looking for a fun dog travel bucket list, check out my latest video with Ruffwear!
